who we are
Founded in 2007, the Smoky Mountain Animal Care Foundation (SMACF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established to create, in partnership with the Blount County government, a $1.6 million state-of-the-art animal-care facility. BCAC is the only open-access municipal shelter in the county; the sole facility guaranteed to serve our county’s citizens.
Our continued mission is to provide funding to the Blount County Animal Center to ensure exceptional medical care and adoption outcomes.
In 2021, the funding provided by SMACF coupled with the dedicated staff and 250 active volunteers resulted in a staggering 92% placement rate for dogs, and a 95% placement rate for cats through the primary rehoming channels of Adoption, Rescue, and Transport.
We have launched our new “Expanding the Pawsibilities” capital campaign to expand our Cat adoption room and holding area as well as our Vetting and Quarantine rooms to meet the needs of today. We also have plans to add much needed quarantine areas in Large Dog Kennels and some additional controlled storage for our Veterinary Surgical Suite. All total a $1,100,000 upgrade to these four areas of the Blount County Animal Center. These vital improvements will allow us to better serve the rapidly increased Cat intake and critical care need more effectively. Our over 90% Save rate is a point of pride and we wish to improve on that as we expand our capacity for medical quarantine treatment areas and improved adoption areas for the public. Please consider making a financial gift to our cause and our mission to save every homeless animal we serve in Blount County!
